KENNER, LA—Vanderbilt slipped back to third place after a Saturday of five team games in which the Commodores weren’t quite up to their A game while catching a couple of red-hot opponents at the wrong time at the All-State Sugar Bowl Invitational.

Vanderbilt trails Stephen F. Austin, who topped the `Dores in Game 3 today, and Sam Houston State, who is unbeaten in match play. Standings are based on total pins.

“We seemed to come out a little tight in the first game,” Coach John Williamson said afterwards. “Things we were able to do yesterday we couldn’t quite replicate today. We weren’t as comfortable with our first shots and that put us into some tougher situations. And we made too many unforced errors.”

As with the first day, the Commodores changed lineups freely as they experiment in this early season. Only sophomore Giselle Poss bowled in all five contests Saturday.

“I thought Giselle was our most consistent bowler today,” Williamson said, “although Robyn came back in our last two games and bowled well.”

Vanderbilt will square off in the title bracket with fourth-place UAB in the best of seven Baker format Sunday. Vanderbilt’s Twitter home is providing updates after each game.
