Dores Earn First Sweep on the Road

Vanderbilt volleyball hit .321 as a team in its win over Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — A balanced offensive attack powered Vanderbilt to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-23) sweep over RV Western Kentucky Tuesday night at Diddle Arena.

Isabella Bareford took command of the Commodore (3-5) offense, registering 30 assists and leading the team to a .321 hitting percentage and a .452 kill percentage.  At the service line, Kamryn Chaney matched her career-high with 6 aces. The junior also led Vandy in kills with nine. Reese Animashaun and Kayla Dunlap each recorded 8 kills on the night.

Vanderbilt’s defensive success was also a team effort. The Dores held WKU (6-3) to a hitting percentage of .208. Bareford, Elli Kinney and Hailee Mack all tallied 6 digs.

The Hilltoppers were led offensively by Alivia Skidmore who posted 8 kills and hit at a .333 clip. Taylor Baron paced WKU defensively with 11 digs.

Vandy got off to a hot start in set 1, holding the Hilltoppers to a hitting percentage of just .143, while the Dores posted an attack percentage of .458. Jackie Moore went a perfect four-for-four to hit 1.000 in the first set.

The second set started off neck-and-neck, but a WKU service error gave way to a 4-0 run for Vandy. The Commodores maintained the lead from that point on until winning the set 25-21.

Vanderbilt’s momentum carried into the third and final set, which the Dores led by as many as 6 points. After the media timeout, WKU began to cut into the Dores’ lead, but Vandy was able to hold off the Hilltoppers to earn the set win and sweep the match.

The Commodores return to action when they host UC Irvine at Memorial Gymnasium Friday night at 7 p.m.
