NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt men’s basketball dropped a 90-77 contest to Arkansas late Tuesday night at Memorial Gymnasium.
At the glass, Vandy (20-10, 8-9 SEC) was out-rebounded 42-31, 22-10 in the second half. The Dores shot 40 percent from three and went 5-for-11 in the second half. The Razorbacks (18-12, 7-10 SEC) shot 51 percent from the field, going 33-for-65.
Four Commodores scored 10-plus points, paced by Tyler Nickel with 16. Nickel went 4-of-7 from three, his fourth consecutive game making three or more three pointers. Devin McGlockton added 12 points for Vandy. AJ Hoggard contributed 14 points, along with five rebounds and a team-high seven assists. Hoggard was also a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. MJ Collins Jr. posted 10 points.
Arkansas also had four players in double figures, led by Johnell Davis with 21. Trevon Brazile recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 boards. Zvonimir Ivišić and DJ Wagner scored 14 points apiece. Karter Knox added 10 points.
Vanderbilt jumped out to an 8-point advantage, leading 18-10 after five minutes, but a late 13-2 Arkansas run left the Commodores trailing 43-37 heading into the break. The Hogs outscored the Dores in the paint 28-10 in the first half. Vanderbilt, however, had a 12-3 advantage in second-chance points, grabbing seven offensive rebounds compared to the Arkansas’ three in the first half.
Arkansas’ momentum continued into the second half, which the Razorbacks never trailed. Thirteen of Nickel’s 16 points were scored after the break. The Hogs finished the game with a 48-26 edge in the paint and 19-12 advantage in second chance points. Arkansas owned the glass, outrebounding the Dores 42-31.
The Commodores close out the regular season on the road Saturday at Georgia. Tipoff is slated for 11 a.m. CT on ESPNU.
