NASHVILLE —The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team snapped its three game losing skid behind 19 points from senior Tiffany Clarke, defeating Austin Peay on Wednesday, 67-36.
Vanderbilt dominated the second half, as the Commodores (4-3 overall) outscored Austin Peay (1-5 overall), 38-9. The Commodores also owned the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Lady Govs, 56-24.
Clarke led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, while also pulling down a game-high seven rebounds. Jasmine Lister (12) and Morgan Batey (11) were the only other Commodores to finish in double figures. The 11 points for Batey were a new career-high.
Lister and Jasmine Jenkins tied for the team-lead with four assists apiece.
As a team, Vanderbilt shot 39 percent from the field, while holding Austin Peay to just 23 percent overall and 21 percent from behind the three-point line. The Commodores also shot an efficient 85 percent (23-of-27) from the free throw line.
Austin Peay’s Tiasha Gray led the way with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the three-point line. Gray was the lone Lady Gov to score in double-figures.
Both teams went back-and-forth for much of the first half, as neither team could really find a rhythm. The two teams combined to commit 11 fouls within the first five minutes of the game, while also turning the ball over a combined 24 times in the half.
The Commodores held a 29-27 lead at the half, behind 10 first half points from Clarke. She was the only player in double figures.
Vanderbilt shot 42 percent from the field, but committed 15 turnovers, while Austin Peay shot 35 percent and committed nine turnovers.
Gray scored nine of her 12 points in the first half for Austin Peay.
Vanderbilt is back in action on Saturday, December 1, when it hosts Tennessee Tech. Tipoff is set for 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Gym.

The nine points Vanderbilt held Austin Peay to in the second half was the lowest total for a Commodore opponent since November 22, 2005. On that date, Vanderbilt held Alabama A&M to eight first half points before going on to win, 80-29…Senior guard Gabby Smith made her first start since January 23, 2011, versus Kentucky. After starting 13 games that year as a sophomore, Smith played just 13 contests last season due to a concussion…Smith recorded her fourth career block in the first half…The Dores opened the game up with a 14-0 run over 7:33 in the first part of the second half. Vanderbilt used a 14-2 run to open the half and forced APSU to miss 13 consecutive shots during the run…Jasmine Jenkins now as 13 career points, all from the free throw line. The freshman is 13-18 from the line and 0-10 from the field…Morgan Batey scored her first career points, first connecting from the line before knocking down a pair of threes and another two charity shots. The rookie finished with nine points…Nadine Ndip saw her first action of the season. Every Commodore in uniform saw action (Christina Foggie, Kristen Gaffney and Stephanie Holzer did not dress)…Vanderbilt improved to 3-0 at home on the season.
