BELLEAIR, Fla. — Vanderbilt women’s golf wrapped up its stay at the SEC Championship with a 10-over-par round on Wednesday and a 15th-place finish at Pelican Golf Club.
Ava Merrill led the Commodores in the final round, carding a 1-under 69 to close the week. Merrill notched three birdies in the round. Tillie Claggett finished at 1-over in the final round, settling in from a rollercoaster first nine holes to go 2-under with a pair of birdies on the second nine.
“I thought the girls showed a lot of heart today and for that I’m really proud of them,” head coach Greg Allen said. “I know today was still not our best but it’s definitely something we can build on as we wait and see where we go for regionals.
“The girls will focus on getting through finals week then it will be nice for them to be able to play and practice without school weighing on them. I know this wasn’t our week, but I still believe in this team and I have faith we have what it takes to advance to La Costa.”
Angelina Tolentino carded a 74 to round out her first SEC Championship, Sara Im a 76 and Lynn Lim an 81 on Wednesday.
Vanderbilt will now await its NCAA Regional destination, which will be unveiled on Wednesday during the NCAA Women’s Golf Selection Show. The show will air at noon CT on Golf Channel.
