NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s golf returns to the course this weekend to compete at the Alice and John Wallace Classic in Palm Desert, California. The three-day, 54-hole event is hosted at the Monterey Country Club.
“We’re excited for another opportunity to compete,” said head coach Greg Allen. “Going west is the ultimate goal come May, so it’s nice to be able to play this weekend in California.”
In addition to No. 10 Vanderbilt, the field this weekend includes Boise State, Long Beach State, Denver, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Hawaii, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, San Jose State, UC Berkeley, UC Riverside, No. 11 UCLA, No. 2 USC and Washington.
“It is also good that we will see USC and UCLA for the first time this year,” Allen added. “They are two of the top teams in the country, so we will need to be sharp from start to finish.”
Angelina Tolentino and Ava Merrill lead the Vanderbilt lineup. Tillie Claggett, Elizabeth Rudisill and Lynn Lim round out the squad. Kathryn Ha will compete as an individual.
“This event is a new tournament and new golf course for us, so preparing a game plan in the practice round will be very important and then finding a way to get comfortable for that first tee shot on Saturday so we can execute it. This team continues to push each other daily and it’s fun to watch them fight for a spot in the lineup.”
Vanderbilt will tee off with USC and Long Beach State at 10 a.m. CT in Saturday’s opening round. Live scoring for the event can be found HERE.
