Dores Improve in Round 2

Vandy tied for fifth

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Vanderbilt’s round two performance at The Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel placed it in a three-way tie for fifth place on Saturday at the UNC Finley Golf Course.

Vandy battled its way throughout the day to improve its finish by solidifying itself in the top-5 and only two strokes back at 287 of fourth place Michigan (-6) at 285. Clemson (-11) finished the day in third with Virginia Tech (-12) sliding back to second at 282 and Wake Forest (-16) in first place at 277.

“I thought today was a big day for us in terms of growing as we showed a lot of maturity and toughness on the last few holes,” head coach Greg Allen said.

In just her second day of competition this season, Celina Sattelkau improved to an eighth-place tie at 4-under-par70.

“After three balls in the water on 15, Celina, Tess and Ginnie combined for six birdies on the last three holes,” Allen said.

Tess Davenport (-1) finished just outside the top-20 in a tie for 23, Virginie Ding (+1) at 33rd, Louise Yu (+4) at 58th, and Ariel Yu (+5) deadlocked for 66th.

Vanderbilt as a team made 33 birdies with Davenport leading the way with 10.

“That’s the kind of resilience we talk about and it’s cool to see them show it. The leaderboard is really bunched up again like it was at the Mason Rudolph Tournament. I’m excited about the opportunity this group has tomorrow.”

The tournament will resume at 7:45 a.m. Sunday. Live scoring can be found here.
