Dore Bowlers Second After Day One

Stats

Whitewater, WI–Vanderbilt’s bowling team is in second place after the first of three days at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational.

The Commodores trail only No. 1 rated Farleigh Dickinson in the eight team field.

“I felt the shot was difficult today; there was a difficult pattern to the lanes,” said Coach John Williamson. “We were paired with FDU the very first game and we came out tight the first two games, trying to force shots. We settled down in our third game and were in a better attack mode. Despite our slow start we still defeated two rated teams in Whitewater (No. 11) and Arkansas State (No. 8). We are in a good position. We are 280 pins behind Farleigh Dickinson but we have lots of bowling left.”

The No. 4 ranked Commodores have five players among the tourney’s top 22 individuals. Sophomore All-American Michelle Peloquin is fourth after averaging 203 over the three games (VU had a bye today). Freshman Josie Earnest is 16th. Farleigh Dickinson’s Becky Ketcham averaged 212 in her four games to lead the competition.

Vanderbilt meets Nebraska in its first contest Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Teams will meet twice in this round-robin event, in which total pin fall is the criteria for the championship. The tournament concludes Sunday. Other competing teams include Elmhurst and Minnesota-Mankato.

(Editor’s note: Saturday’s results may not be posted on this site until approximately 9:00 p.m. due to travel from other varsity events.)
