HUNTLAND, Texas – Vanderbilt rests in second place after the first day of competition ended Friday at the Track Kat Klash, hosted by Sam Houston State.

The Commodores won four and lost by three pins to Monmouth on the day of four game Baker sets. They defeated Grambling, Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State and Prairie View.

“We played everyone and changed lineups every game,” said Coach John Williamson. “We could have probably had higher scores because changing so often didn’t allow us to ever establish a rhythm. However I thought giving some younger players experience and opportunity was more important on the first day of play than pin count.”

Williamson was very pleased with freshman Rebeca Reguero, who was making her varsity debut, along with veterans Kim Carper and Jessica Earnest.

“Rebeca threw and lot of strikes and played very well considering it was her first experience,” he said. “Kim didn’t have an open frame all day and Jess was also very consistent.”

Arkansas State leads the 13-team pack by a little over 100 pins as the teams gear up for five traditional games tomorrow. Play starts at 9:20 a.m.
