NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s golf student-athlete Virginie Ding has earned a sponsor invitation to compete in the FREED GROUP Women’s Scottish Open, an event that is part of the schedule of both the LPGA and Ladies European Tours.
The tournament will take place Thursday-Sunday at the Dundonald Links, with coverage on Golf Channel beginning at 8 a.m. CT the first two days of play and 7 a.m. the final two days. The field for the event includes seven of the top 10 players in the world and 19 major champions.
The rising junior from Hong Kong, China, appeared in all 11 events for the Commodores during the 2022-23 season, recording a 73.1 scoring average highlighted by eight rounds under par. Ding was runner-up at the FAU Paradise Invitational after firing a three-round 10-under-par 206 total, and tied for fifth at 5-under par at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate. She also earned a top-20 finish at the NCAA Westfield Regional after carding a 3-under-par 69 on the final day of play.
Earlier in 2023 Ding claimed the Orlando Amateur Championship with a 10-under-par 206 score, and she has also recorded top-10 results at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship each of the last two years.
Former Dore Marina Alex, who has posted three top-25 finishes on the LPGA Tour thus far this season, will also be in the field this week.
