Third Round Results

The Commodore women’s golf team shot a 19-over par, 307, in their third round Thursday at the UGA Golf Course in Athens, Ga., and are in 19th position heading into the final round Friday. After three days, Vanderbilt has a team total of 895 (299-289-307), with freshman Jenny Hahn leading all Commodores with a 217 (71-67-79) total, which is good for a tie for 17th.

Sophomore Kendall Martindale led all Commodore scorers on Thursday with a two-over par, 74. Senior Lauren Stratton carded a 76, sophomore Irina Gabasa posted a 77, and Hahn a 79. Junior Rene Sobolewski shot an 84 in her third round the UGA Golf Course.

“I’m really disappointed in our effort today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “Our body language was terrible and that makes me furious as a coach. Hopefully, my message was clear in our post-round meeting.”

The Commodores fell victim to tougher conditions on Thursday afternoon in Athens. Although the humidity and temperatures were lower than previous days, there was a stiff breeze that made play more difficult. The best round of the day came from Auburn, who played in the morning wave and shot a three-under par, 285, and overall leader USC, who stormed back late in their round to also post a three-under score.

Vanderbilt, who began the third round in 11th, will tee off Friday at 7:33 a.m. off of the number one tee in the morning wave with Oklahoma State and Texas.

Number one-ranked USC continues to dominate the tournament after their 285 on Thursday. The Trojans, who have led wire-to-wire, have a whopping 17-stroke lead over second-place Duke and a 27-stroke lead over third-place Alabama, the defending national champion, with a score of 845 (284-276-285).

Individually, Annie Park of USC is atop the leader board with a nine-under par, 207, after firing a third-round 70 Thursday. Mississippi State’s Ally McDonald and Alabama’s Stephanie Meadow are both two strokes back in second place.
