First Round Results

The Vanderbilt women’s golf team carded a first-round 309 at the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala., at the Greystone Golf and Country Club and are in 13th place on the team leader board. Sophomores Alexandra Farnsworth and Cindy Ha each carded a 76 on Friday to lead the Commodores.

Other Vanderbilt scores on Friday included a 78 from junior Kate Sborov, a 79 from Jennifer Hahn, and an 80 from freshman Courtney Zeng.

“We were rock solid as a team through the first eight holes and were even hanging in through 12 despite a couple of double bogeys,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “Jenn caught a bad break on 14 that escalated into a quad. She then got aggressive with some birdie putts and missed the comeback par putts. She goes from one-over to shooting 79. That’s a tough score to count. Farney had a tough finish as well. We have a lot of work to do and will need some help, but anything is possible in this game. Just ask anyone who watched The Masters. One thing is for sure, though. We have to finish better.”

Alabama leads all teams after posting a first-round 286, with South Carolina’s Ainhoa Olarra and Maria Torres of Florida sharing the individual lead with a three-under par, 69.

The second round of the tournament continues on Saturday.
