Davis, Thomas Invited To WNBA Camp

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Vanderbilt seniors Dee Davis and Carla Thomas have been invited to participate in the 2007 WNBA Pre-Draft Camp this week at Cleveland State University.

The Commodore duo will join a host of top women’s basketball prospects from around the world on March 30-31. The camp offers coaches and general managers from all 13 WNBA teams an opportunity to evaluate the top young players in advance of the 2007 WNBA Draft presented by adidas, set to take place in Cleveland on April 4. The prospects will showcase their skills and compete against one another in drills, half-court scenarios and full-court scrimmages during three on-court sessions.

The 2007 WNBA Draft presented by adidas will begin at 1 p.m. ET at the Renaissance Hotel in Cleveland. ESPN2 will provide exclusive first round coverage of the Draft with continued coverage of the second and third rounds on ESPNU and NBA TV. In addition, WNBA.com will cover all three rounds, providing complete analysis and comprehensive information on all 13 teams’ selections.

In addition to the WNBA’s Pre-Draft Camp on March 30-31 and Draft on April 4, Cleveland will host the NCAA Women’s Final Four on April 1 and 3 at Quicken Loans Arena as well as the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association National Convention.

Last year, when the WNBA Draft was held in Boston, marked the first time the WNBA Draft was held during the week of – and in the city of – the NCAA Women’s Final Four. In previous years, the event was held at NBA TV studios in New Jersey while prior Pre-Draft Camps were conducted in the either metropolitan New York or Chicago.

The WNBA will tip off its second decade of play in 2007 and will feature a record number of national telecasts. Comprehensive coverage of the WNBA regular season will include 91 national telecasts on ABC, ESPN2 and NBA TV. The season will begin on May 19 when the defending champion Detroit Shock hosts the Sacramento Monarchs in a rematch of last year’s WNBA Finals. The WNBA All-Star Game will be played at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. on July 15 at 3:30 pm ET with live coverage on ABC.

In 2006, the WNBA concluded its historic tenth season with an action-packed WNBA Playoffs. The 2006 WNBA Finals capped a playoff run in which the WNBA saw significant increases in attendance and viewership. The Finals, which aired live on ESPN2, saw the Detroit Shock top the Sacramento Monarchs in the first WNBA Finals match up ever to go to a fifth and deciding game.
