9/24/2006 Men’s Results / Women’s Results NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Commodore cross country squads took both titles at the Commodore Classic on Saturday. Earlier rainy conditions made the course damp and the air muggy, but that didn’t seem to affect the women, who took the top four out of five places. Commodores Erika Schneble, Brittany Sizer and Julie Eckerly stayed close throughout the first half of the race, and held an eight second lead over opponents at the 2-mile mark. The trio separated at the finish line, with Schneble finishing at 18:19, Sizer finishing at 18:30, and Eckerly finishing at 18:55. “We wanted to run in groups and in a progressive manor by relaxing early and building with each mile. And we did a good job of that,” VU Head Coach Steve Keith said. With their previous second place finisher out with illness, the Commodore men still placed four runners in the top ten. Austin Williamson gained the lead early in the 8k and maintained his front position throughout the run. Williamson led the squad and took the race title with a 26:32 mark. Austin Weaver stayed with Williamson throughout most of race, finishing overall with a 26:59 mark. “It wasn’t a bad run, but they definitely showed signs of fatigue. You don’t want to race that way frequently, but we had a full week of training, and we’ll be fully rested for the meet next week.” Complete Commodore Results Women Men |
