Cross Country Signs Three

Nov. 14, 2006

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s cross country team inked three talented athletes from the West who will help lead the team in 2007.

Kristabel Doebel-Hickok out of California, Kate Southcote-Want from Washington, and Adrienne DiRaddo, a Texas native, will join the 2007-08 cross country roster.

Doebel-Hickok is a Los Angeles native out of Palisades High School who is listed as one of the LA Times’ top distance runners in both cross country and track.

At the Long Beach Invitational Doebel-Hickok broke the 18-minute mark for the first time in her career to win the 3-mile run with a time of 17:39. Just a week later, the Los Angeles star took the Division IV title of the Woodbridge Invitational, finishing in 17 minutes and 10 seconds.

“Kristabel should be an immediate impact for our young distance squad next fall,” VU Head Coach Keith said. “We will look to build around her for the incoming 2007 class.”

Kate Southcote-Want recently finished her cross country prep career at Woodway High School in Edmonds, Wash. Southcote-Want holds Woodway track records in the 5k, 3200 and 1600 and earned All-State cross country honors in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Southcote-Want is also a multi-sport performer and has participated on Woodway High’s soccer, basketball and swimming teams.

“Kate is a very versatile athlete who brings a very nice middle distance aptitude to our team,” Keith said.  “As a multi-sport athlete Kate has a lot of upside and potential, especially when we just focus on track and distance running in college.”

The final commitment for 2007 is Adrienne DiRaddo, out of The Woodlands High School in Texas, where VU baseball standouts David Macias and Shea Robin also finished their prep careers.

DiRaddo was named All-State cross country in 2005 and helped lead her team to a third place finish at the Texas 5A state meet.

“Adrienne is from a championship program and knows what it takes to perform at a high level,” Keith said.
