Cross Country Announces 2023 Schedule

Vanderbilt cross country will prepare for its 2023 season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Director of cross country and track and field Althea Thomas unveiled the program’s 2023 cross country schedule Tuesday.

The Commodores will kick off their season close to home as they compete in the Belmont Opener on Sept. 1. The team will then travel south to Gainesville, Florida, for the Mountain Dew Invitational and NCAA South Region Preview (Sept. 15). On Sept. 29, Vanderbilt will compete in the Joe Piane Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame.

The Dores will cap the regular season at the XC 23 Invitational (Oct. 14), a pre-national meet held at the same site as the national championships the following month.

Postseason competition will begin with the SEC Championships, which will be hosted by South Carolina (Oct. 27). The NCAA South Region Championships will be held in Gainesville on Nov. 10. The NCAA Cross Country Championships will close out the 2023 season and will take place in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Nov. 18.

At the 2022 SEC Championships, the Vanderbilt women finished ninth overall, tallying a total of 223 points. Three returning Commodores, sophomore Audrey Allman (40th), junior Cameron Fawcett (28th) and graduate student Caroline Eck (39th), placed in the top 40 at the conference meet. The women’s cross country team went on to place 10th at the NCAA South Region Championships. Fawcett was the second Commodore and 47th overall to finish at the meet.

The Vanderbilt men’s cross country team scored 347 total points to place 12th at the 2022 SEC Championships. Juniors Philip Metcalf and Zach Hodges led the Commodore men, finishing 61st and 76th, respectively, at the conference meet.
