TODAY’S FEATURED PLAYER: Rebekah Dahlman
Fr., Guard, 5-9
Hometown: Braham, Minn.
As she heads into her first season as a member of the Vanderbilt’s women’s team Rebekah Dahlman brings an impressive resumé with her. She was one of the nation’s best high school players during her career at Braham Area (Minnesota), where she became the all-time leading female scorer in state history, collecting more than 5,000 points.
She was a McDonald’s All-American and a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year, and is expected to make an immediate impact at Vanderbilt.
Today, Dahlman is our first featured player as we begin our Countdown to Tipoff – a two-week-day preview package that will spotlight a different player or coach each day.
Dahlman recently sat down for an interview with vucommodores.com to talk about the coming season and a few other topics. Here’s what she had to say:
FIVE QUESTIONS WITH DAHLMAN
QUESTION: What has been your favorite part about being a member of the Vanderbilt women’s basketball program thus far?
DAHLMAN: Being a part of this team, this family. They treat me so well. My coaches treat me so well. I fit in right away. I love it here.
QUESTION: What has been the biggest adjustment for you in terms of going from the high school game to the college game?
DAHLMAN: The biggest one is the pace. Going to high school, I felt like it was really slow, and now I’m playing against D-I players all around. The pace is so much more competitive. I’m sure the atmosphere is going to be a huge difference (too) when we start playing. The pace, I know in practice, is a huge difference.
QUESTION: How cool is it to be the all-time leading scorer in the history of girls basketball in Minnesota?
DAHLMAN: I look back on it now and it’s pretty cool. I have a legacy back there (in Minnesota) and I’m sure when I grow up, it’ll be pretty special to me. But right now, I’m starting over; clean slate. (I’m) starting fresh as a freshman, and now none of (those accomplishments in high school) matters.
QUESTION: Name three words that you think the other players would use to describe to you.
DAHLMAN: Competitor. Warrior. Fearless.
QUESTION: What’s the one thing that you never forget to pack on road trips?
DAHLMAN: I love brushing my teeth — so toothbrush. I probably brush my teeth like four times a day, just because I love it.
