Vanderbilt head women’s golf coach Greg Allen has announced the signing of Cindy Ha and Alexandra Farnsworth to National Letters of Intent, with both being eligible to compete for the Commodores beginning in the fall of 2014.
“I couldn’t be more excited about signing these two wonderful young ladies and having the opportunity to coach them,” said Allen. “Alexandra and Cindy are no doubt going to come in here and leave their mark with the Vanderbilt community on and off the golf course. They are brilliant students, passionate players and outstanding role models. It’s been a pleasure getting to know them and their families during the recruiting process and they will fit right in with the family atmosphere that we have at Vanderbilt Golf.”
Farnsworth, from Nashville, attends Ensworth and was named a 2013 Honorable Mention All-American by the AJGA, and is ranked 11th in the class of 2014 according to the Polo Golf Rankings. She played in the 2013 U.S. Girls Junior Amateur Championship, and won three events in 2013, including the Ashworth Elite at Foxland Harbour, the AAJGT at Willowbrook Golf Club, and the AJGA Under Armour/Scott Stallings Championship presented by True Temper. She finished runner-up in the TSSAA 2013 Division II AA State Golf Championship, placed third at the Bubba Conlee National Junior Golf Tournament, fourth at the AJGA Izod AJGA Championship, and fifth at the AJGA Bridgestone Golf/Brandt Snedeker Music City Junior.
Ha, from Demarest, New Jersey, was named an Honorable Mention All-American in 2012 by the AJGA is ranked 17th in the class of 2014 Polo Golf Rankings. Ha defeated former Commodore great and current LPGA player Marina Alex in the 2011 U.S. Women’s Amateur and advanced to the round of 16, while also winning the New Jersey Girls’ Junior Championship, the Maureen Orcutt Trophy Tournament and finishing second at the AJGA Lessing’s that year. In 2012, Ha finished second at the Lessing’s and the Exide Technologies Junior Open presented by Mizuno, and third at the Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity Junior Shootout.
“Alexandra and Cindy are both proven players at all levels of junior golf,” continued Allen. “Alexandra won about everything there is to win in Nashville and in the state of Tennessee and will come in here as probably the most decorated local player ever behind Brandt Snedeker. Cindy really got our attention in the summer of 2011 when she beat Marina Alex in the first round of the US Women’s Amateur. I look for Cindy and Alexandra to come in right away and help us.”
