After adding another Thanksgiving Tournament trophy to their collection this past weekend, the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team is ready for its next challenge: Hosting East Tennessee State on Tuesday night.

Tipoff is at 7 p.m. between the Commodores (6-2) and the Bucaneers (2-4).

It will be the sixth all-time meeting between the two teams, with Vanderbilt owning a 3-2 lead in the series between the in-state rivals.

ETSU beat Vanderbilt during the 1979-80 and 1980-81 seasons, but the Commodores have since won three straight against the Bucs. Vanderbilt posted a 96-83 win over ETSU in the most recent meeting between the teams, which came during the 2009-10 season.

The Commodores, who will carry a three-game winning streak into Tuesday’s contest, are hoping to build on the momentum they gained over the weekend when they captured the championship at the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament.

The Commodores opened the event with an 88-66 win over Elon and then downed Wisconsin 81-69 in the championship game.

The two wins gave Vanderbilt a 28-0 all-time record in the tourney.

Christina Foggie, who averaged 20.5 points per game in the two contests, was named the tourney’s MVP. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by senior Jasmine Lister and freshman Kylee Smith.

East Tennessee State, meanwhile, enters Tuesday’s game having lost three of its past four games, including suffering a 58-56 loss to Western Carolina on Sunday.

ETSU has four players averaging in double figures in scoring: Destiny Mitchell (15.0 ppg), Cara Bowling (13.7), Serena Clark (12.2) and Brianna McQueen (11.4).

The Buccaneers are scoring 73.5 points per game as a team.

For Vanderbilt, Foggie — who was named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List last season — leads the team in scoring at 19.6 points per game, followed by Lister (14.5) and Rebekah Dahlman (12.1).

Following Tuesday’s game, the Commodores have a 12-day break before their next game, when they travel to Hartford on Dec. 15. Vanderbilt’s next home game is on Dec. 21 against UNC-Asheville.
