Sophomore Cindy Ha shot a five-under, 67, in her first round at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown and led the Commodores to a tie for fifth place standing at the par-72, 6,277-yard Boulder Creek Club. Vanderbilt shot a team total of eight-under, 280, on Sunday, and trail first-place Michigan and San Jose State by five shots heading into the second round Monday in Las Vegas.
The Commodores also counted a four-under 68 from senior Jennifer Hahn, from nearby Henderson, a one-under 71 from sophomore Alexandra Farnsworth, and a two-over, 74, from senior Morgan Ransom on Sunday. Vanderbilt counted 21 birdies and an eagle in their first round at Boulder Creek.
Vanderbilt is tied with San Diego State for fifth and trails fourth-place Nebraska by two shots.
Individually, Ha is in a tie for third on the individual leader board with her first round 67, while Hahn is in a tie for eighth with her 68. My Leander of San Jose State is the individual leader after her seven-under 65 on Sunday.
The second round of the tournament continues on Monday.
