Commodores Lose to Evansville, 2-1 10/31/2003 Commodores Lose to Evansville, 2-1 EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Commodores scored first, but Evansville came back to score two unanswered goals to defeat Vanderbilt 2-1 Friday night at Black Beauty Field. Vanderbilt is 3-9-5, 0-6-2, while Evansville owns a 9-5-3 record, 4-3-1 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference. Junior Ryan Paugh put the Commodores on the scoreboard at the 7:43 mark when he stole the ball and beat Evansville goalkeeper Troy Perkins when his shot hit the back of the net on the right side. Evansville tied the match when freshman Ian McAuley came off the bench and in less than 30 seconds scored his fifth goal of the season, from eight yards out on the right side, at the 26:09 mark. The game-winner came at 50:20 when Dan Broxup took a Lance Muckey throw-in on one hop, turned and kicked it past Commodore keeper Conor Ellinger from six yards away to make it 2-1. Evansville finished with 14 shots, five on goal. Vanderbilt had 12 shots, with five on goal. The Commodores end the regular season Sunday at Southwest Missouri. |
