Vanderbilt climbs leaderboard at Pebble Beach

NASHVILLE, Tenn — Vanderbilt women’s golf finished 7-over-par on Saturday to end the second round at 15-over for the Carmel Cup. The Dores sit in second place after the first two rounds at Pebble Beach.

“What an amazing start through the first six holes today and we saw a glimpse of how good this team can be,” said head coach Greg Allen. “But the last six holes at Pebble are usually into the wind and they played really difficult today.”

Tillie Claggett led the Commodores with a 4-under round on Saturday, notching 7 birdies. The senior is tied for fourth overall.

“We moved up the leaderboard today despite not finishing as well as we wanted,” said Allen. ”What a great round by Tillie. She was absolutely pounding her driving and looked in control of her game.”

Kathryn Ha posted a 1-over 73 on Saturday and sits tied for 10th individually after 36 holes. Merrill also finished at 1-over in the second round, holing three birdies in the first four holes. Sara Im carded a 4-over 76. Lynn Lim and Elizabeth Rudisill had a 77.

Vanderbilt leads the tournament in birdies after two rounds. The Dores carded 41 birdies overall over two days.

“It seems like A&M is playing a different golf course than everybody else, but we still have an opportunity tomorrow to come out and beat some really good teams,” said Allen. “There is no quit in this team, so I expect them to fight from start to finish.”

Vanderbilt will tee off the final round with Arkansas and TCU at 9:46 a.m. CT on Sunday. Live scoring for the event can be found HERE.
