Commodores have Sugar Bowl's third seed

Oct. 17, 2015

KENNER, LA—Vanderbilt had an inconsistent day on the lanes and enters Sunday’s championship bracket at the No. 3 seed at the All-State Sugar Bowl Classic.

The Commodores won just two of five matches and seldom had its lineup firing on all five cylinders. Wins came over Jackson State and Alabama State with losses against Sam Houston State, North Carolina A & T to open the day and Stephen F. Austin to close the afternoon.

“I thought we were not sharp with our spare shooting yesterday as we had 25 missed makeable spares,” said Coach John Williamson, “and today we had a total of 30. We had seven alone in the Stephen F. game and when you play someone good like them you can’t give that many pins away.”

Vandy lost to last year’s NCAA runner-up, 1,026-991, despite a 235 from Tori Ferris and a 221 from Kristin Quah.

“I thought Kristin and Giselle (Poss) were very good today,” Williamson said. Kris heated up as the day wore on and G was steady all day.”

Vandy opens the championship bracket tomorrow morning in a quick rematch with SFA. Arkansas State is the top seed, Sam Houston second and SFA fourth.
