Commodores go 4-1 on consistent day

Feb. 26, 2016

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ—Vanderbilt posted a solid day on the Brunswick Zone Carolier lanes and won four of five Baker games on the first day of the Monmouth Hawk Flight Invite.

The Commodores defeated Long Island, Kutztown, New Jersey City and Felician by averaging 216.5 or higher in three of the four victories. Ironically, Vandy’s day-high best score of 1,125 in the 5-game Baker sets was seven pins shy of topping host Monmouth in the day’s finale.

The Black and Gold attack was balanced with Amanda Fry’s 23.3 frame average in 18 frames leading the way. Kris Quah averaged 22.9 in 49 frames while Giselle Poss didn’t miss a frame in averaging 21.3, the same as Jordan Newham in 45 frames. Anchor Robyn Renslow bowled 49 frames and averaged 21.1.

“Amanda came into the lineup the last two games and was pretty much spot-on,” said Coach John Williamson, “and Kris had a good day. We were able to execute. We played well except for a lapse against New Jersey City. The Monmouth game was a striking contest and they got one more than we did.”

Unlike nearly all collegiate tournaments, the Hawk Flight is determined by won-loss record and not total pinfall. Monmouth went unbeaten in five matches and Sam Houston went 4-0 with a bye game. Vandy’s 4-1 mark followed in third.

Saturday’s play is traditional team games, live streamed on Cube beginning at 8 am (CST). Vandy will have four games and a bye.
