The Commodores saved their best for last at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday when they fired their tournament team low score of 296 in the final round of play a the Rio Mar County Club River Course in Rio Grande, P.R. Vanderbilt moved up two places from Monday and finished the tournament in 12th. Junior Alexandra Farnsworth paced the Commodore effort on Tuesday with a one-under par, 71, and was the team’s best finisher for the week with a final total of 224 (77-76-71), which placed her in a tie for 26th individually.
“Well, we are moving in the right direction,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “We looked much better today, but in no way can we be content with our overall finish. We’ve got to be more consistent all three rounds and not put ourselves so far behind after day one.”
Other scores from Tuesday include a 74 from Courtney Zeng, a 75 from Alison Armstrong, a 76 from Kate Sborov, and a 77 from Abbey Carlson.
N.C. State won the team title with a final score of 877 (303-289-285), one shot better than Furman and Kent State, who tied for second. Five players finished atop the individual leaderboard – Maria Vesga of Baylor, Naomi Ko of N.C. State, Haylee Harford of Furman, Amy Lee of Baylor, and Panitta Yusabai of Maryland.
The Commodores will have two weeks off before teeing it up again at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate March 3-5 in Hilton Head, S.C.
