The Commodore women’s golf team finished the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz., in 10th place with a final total of 897 (302-294-301) at the Longbow Golf Club on Sunday. Freshman Abbey Carlson was the team’s leading scorer with a total of 221 (74-75-72), which was good for a tie for 26th.
Carlson’s even-par 72 was the team’s low round of the day. Vanderbilt’s other counters on Sunday were Kate Sborov (76), Alexandra Farnsworth (76), and Courtney Zeng (77).
“Well, not the finish we were hoping for,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “Very disappointing but not discouraging. I’m really proud of Abbey today. She looked very confident and very in control of her game all day long. For the others, I think it was a matter of never feeling comfortable on the the course. We’ve got 9 days before we leave for Clemson and we just need to keep working on getting better in all aspects of the game.”
Arizona State won the team title with a score of 838 (281-275-282). Oklahoma’s Julienne Soo won medalist honors with a 13-under, 203.
The Commodores are off until March 31-April 2 at the Clemson Invitational in Sunset, S.C.
