How It Happened
First Quarter: Mississippi State 26, Vanderbilt 11
Both teams opened the game with triples but the visiting Bulldogs used a 9-1 run to pull ahead, 15-7, at the first media timeout and never looked back. Mississippi State leaned heavily on Roshunda Johnson, who had three triples in the first quarter and helped the Bulldogs to a 26-11 lead at the quarter break. Johnson led all scorers with 11 points at the first break.

Second Quarter: Mississippi State 50, Vanderbilt 26
Christa Reed opened the quarter with two early buckets, which helped shift a little momentum to the Commodores, but Mississippi State shot 50 percent from long range in the first half, highlighted by three triples each from Blair Schaefer and Johnson. Second chance points were big for the Bulldogs, who in the first half turned second chances into 10 points.

Third Quarter: Mississippi State 76, Vanderbilt 38
Trailing 63-32, Blair Schaefer hit a three-point field goal, her fourth of the game and the ninth of the game for the Bulldogs, which forced White to call a timeout to try to stop the momentum. The second and third quarters were the best for the Commodores, as they shot 60 percent (12-of-20) but they couldn’t overcome 26 turnovers on the night, which led to 34 Mississippi State points.

Fourth Quarter: Mississippi State 95, Vanderbilt 50
Kayla Overbeck, who has been very efficient from the floor over the last 10 games and was shooting 72.9 percent from the floor entering the game, reached double figures for the sixth consecutive game with 12 points, including eight in the second half, but the Commodores couldn’t find a way to stop the inside combo of Teaira McCowan and reserve Zion Campbell, who combined for 18 second-half points as the Bulldogs remained undefeated.
