How It Happened
First Quarter: Texas A&M 17, Vanderbilt 14
It was a slow start to the game for both teams, as it took nearly two minutes for either team to get on the board and a bucket from Autumn Newby broke the stalemate. The teams went back-and-forth but seven first-quarter points from Chennedy Carter, kept the lead with the Aggies, 11-4 at the first media timeout. After the Aggies pulled ahead, 15-4, a bucket from Chelsie Hall and a foul on Overbeck underneath seemed to give the Dores a little bit of life and sparked an 8-2 surge from the home team, getting them within three points to close the quarter.

Second Quarter: Texas A&M 42, Vanderbilt 28
The Aggies stopped any of the momentum the Dores picked up at the end of the quarter with two quick buckets less than 10 seconds into the quarter. Vanderbilt settled in with a pair of free throws form Reed but the Aggies 8-2 run to open the quarter forced White to call a timeout to help the Commodores regroup. Chelsea Hall provided a spark, carving up the defense to get the Commodores a bucket and pull the score to 25-18 at the 5:24 mark. The first half was characterized by a struggle from long range for both teams, through the first half, Vanderbilt was 0-of-6 and the Aggies were 3-of-8. Overbeck and Chelsie Hall really put the team on their backs in the second quarter combining for 12 of Vanderbilt’s 14 points as the Aggies took a 42-28 lead into halftime.

Third Quarter: Texas A&M 74, Vanderbilt 47
Kayla Overbeck continued to be a force for the Commodores and earned the start in the second half. After going 0-of-6 in the first half from long range, Cierra Walker nailed a trey at the 8:11 mark. The Commodores couldn’t figure anything out defensively to stop the Aggies, who scored 32 points in the third quarter and took their largest lead, 55-36, at the 4:49 mark, forcing the Commodores to call a timeout. LeaLea Carter had one of her better games against the Aggies and added four points. The three’s started to fall in the second half with triples from Christa Reed and Walker but Vanderbilt didn’t have any answer to the Aggies specifically Chennedy Carter who tallied a game-high 28 points.

Fourth Quarter: Texas A&M 91, Vanderbilt 67
Chelsie Hall really had a great second half, after scoring eight points in the first half she added eight second-half points. One of the deciding factors in the game was turnovers. The Commodores posted 20 turnovers on the afternoon – their most turnovers in the last five games and the Aggies scored 26 points of Vanderbilt miscues. Rebounding was also a concern for the Commodores as they had just 24 rebounds on the night and allowed the Aggies 19 second chance opportunities. Despite pulling as close as 12 in the third quarter, Texas A&M’s lead was never fewer than 25 points in the fourth quarter as they won their fourth consecutive game against the Commodores.
