How It Happened
First Quarter: Mizzou 25, Vanderbilt 15
The Commodores jumped out to a 5-2 lead early highlighted by a triple from Cierra Walker the first of two from Walker in the first quarter. The Tigers caught back up quickly with a trey from Amber Smith and used a 10-0 run, sparked by two triples, to take a 12-5 lead forcing a Vanderbilt timeout. Out of the break Chelsie Hall stopped the run with a bucket but the Tigers kept their lead at double digits throughout the first quarter. The highlight of the quarter was a rare four-point play from Cierra Walker.

Second Quarter: Mizzou 48, Vanderbilt 37
Vanderbilt’s second leading scorer, Rachel Bell started to warm up in the second quarter but three consecutive three-pointers from the Tigers pushed the lead to 20 – the largest of the game to that point as the Tigers began to pull away. A free throw from Autumn Newby ended a 2:10 scoreless drought for the home team but Mizzou maintained a sizable lead. Kayla Overbeck scored five unanswered to get the lead down to 15 points with 2:14 left before a Mizzou bucket. The Commodores scored being down by 22 at the 3:22 mark.

Third Quarter: Mizzou 72, Vanderbilt 47
The Commodores got the lead to 10 points just out of the halftime break with a Chelsie Hall three-point play but Missouri pushed the lead back up to 16 points behind a 6-0 run over a 1:34 span forcing head coach Stephanie White to call a timeout midway through the quarter. The Commodores – scoreless over a span of 4:34 – came out of the timeout and were sparked by Erin Whalen who had a quick five points off the bench but the Commodores couldn’t stop the Tiger offense who shot 56.3 percent through three quarters and had 24 third-quarter points.

Fourth Quarter: Mizzou 81, Vanderbilt 70
The Tigers extended their lead to a game-best 28 points with a three-pointer from Jordan Chavis before the Commodores started to cut back into the lead. Vanderbilt used a 11-0 run sparked by two of Cierra’s Walker’s four three-pointers to cut the lead to 17 at the 4:33 mark of the quarter. Erin Whalen was a huge lift in the fourth quarter with 11 unanswered points over the final three minutes, including a 7-0 spurt on her own. Despite the good close to the game and holding the Tigers to just nine points, the Commodores couldn’t get the Mizzou lead down to single digits as the Tigers moved to 3-1 in SEC play.
