WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Commodores took the game all the way to overtime but couldn’t find a way to secure the win in a heartbreaking 73-71 loss to Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon. For the second consecutive day, Rachel Bell led the way with 17 points while Chelsie Hall added 15 points. Christa Reed and Kayla Overbeck were also in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. Overbeck led the way on the glass with seven rebounds.

How It Happened
First Quarter: Wisconsin 23, Vanderbilt 19
The Badgers jumped out to a 4-0 lead early before the Dores battled back to tie the game but it was a chess match much like the Commodores matchup with Syracuse the previous day. Christa Reed led the way for the designated visitors with seven first-quarter points. The Commodores didn’t go a great job of stopping the Badgers as they shot 69 percent in the first quarter and over 50 percent from long range.
Second Quarter: Vanderbilt 40, Wisconsin 38
Trailing to open the quarter, the Dores used a 12-0 run sparked by four points from Kayla Overbeck, who tallied eight in the half, to give the Commodores a 28-25 lead at the 5:53 mark of the half. Vanderbilt extended its lead to 31-25 with an old-fashioned three-point play from Autumn Newby but a bucket from Wisconsin’s Suzanne Gilreath stopped the Vanderbilt run.
Kaleigh Clemons-Green dialed up the defensive pressure but the Badgers fought back to erase all of the Dores 12-0 run and the last 3:19 of the quarter was a back-and-forth affair but Vanderbilt took a 40-38 lead into the break.
Third Quarter: Wisconsin 61, Vanderbilt 59
Vanderbilt scored the first bucket of the quarter but the scored was deadlocked at 47 – tie No. 12 of the contest – at the third quarter media timeout. Wisconsin’s Howard tallied 24 points for the contest and entered the game averaging just 9.0 points per game and led the Badgers to a 53-49 lead at the media timeout. Vanderbilt used back-to-back jumpers from Hall and Cierra Walker to take a one-point lead but the Badgers went to Howard and used a 4-0 spurt to regain the lead in a quarter took a two-point lead into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Vanderbilt 69, Wisconsin 69
A bucket from Bell tied the game at 61 and the score see-sawed back and forth for the majority of the quarter. The Commodores tied the game at 69 on a jumper from Rachel Bell and earned a defensive stop with 50.5 seconds left before a timeout out from White to set up a play. The Dores held off a late Wisconsin shot to send the game to OT.
Overtime
The Commodores forced overtime but neither team could get much offense going in the extra time with a combined six points between the two teams. Vanderbilt scored the first bucket on a basket from Overbeck but couldn’t get anything else going as the team Commodores fell 73-71 in their first OT contest of the season.

-Today was the fourth meeting between Vanderbilt and Wisconsin with the Commodores leading the series, 3-0, heading into Saturday’s game.
