Commodores End 2004 with Visit From Dayton

Winners of 20 consecutive non-conference home games, Vanderbilt closes out the 2004 calendar year by playing host to Dayton Wednesday at Memorial Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 8:06 p.m. CT. The contest will be televised on Fox Sports Net.

The Commodores return to the court following the holiday break having won three consecutive games — all at home. Vanderbilt (7-4) is coming off a 68-51 win over Appalachian State on Dec. 22 where the Commodores grabbed a Stallings-era-high 55 rebounds. Julian Terrell and Corey Smith scored a game-high 16 points each in the win. Terrell posted his fourth career double-double after pulling down a career-high 12 rebounds against the Mountaineers. Smith recorded his third consecutive strong effort off the bench. The senior is averaging 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in  his last three games as a reserve.

Mario Moore continues to lead the Commodore attack, averaging a team-best 15.0 points a game. Moore entered play Monday ranked second in the Southeastern Conference with a .526 3-point shooting percentage (30-of-57). He averages 2.73 3-pointers  per game — fourth-best in the league. The Nashville native needs one 3-point attempt and a trio of made three-pointers to climb onto Vanderbilt’s career Top 10 chart for each category.

Dayton (6-3) comes to Nashville having won five consecutive games. The Flyers are led by Monty Scott’s 11.8 points per game and team-best 45.9 shooting beyond the arc. Dayton topped Akron, 77-66, in its last game on Dec. 23.

Vanderbilt owns a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series. The Commodores won 84-64 at home on Dec. 21, 1991 and 75-53 at Dayton on Dec. 5, 1992.
