NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A balanced effort by the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team defeated Drury, 79-54, in the Commodores’ final exhibition game before starting the 2009-10 regular season next week.
Seniors Ashlee Bridge and Lauren Lueders paced the Commodores with 11 points, while junior Jence Rhoads scored 10. Three Commodores had nine points as all 11 active players saw action.
Drury’s only lead came at 5-0 to start the game. The Commodores would then score 13 straight points. The Lady Panthers did cut the lead to five points early in the second half, but a 19-0 run midway through the period put the game away.
Drury’s Lindsay Ballweg led all scorers with 12 points. The Lady Panthers committed 24 turnovers and were outscored in the paint 40-12.
Vanderbilt will open the regular season next Sunday, Nov. 15, when Lehigh visits Memorial Gymnasium for a 2 p.m. CT tip.
