Six double-figure scorers lead Vandy to fourth straight win to begin season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Devin McGlockton, Tyler Nickel and Tyler Tanner all nearly turned in double-doubles Saturday to help Vanderbilt men’s basketball extend its season-opening win streak with a 104-75 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Memorial Gymnasium.

McGlockton posted 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting and nine rebounds, Nickel finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, and Tanner added 12 points and nine assists as the Commodores (4-0) recorded their third game scoring 100 or more points in November for the first time in program history. Duke Miles supplied 20 points, AK Okereke scored 14 and Tyler Harris chipped in with 13 off the bench also, marking first time since 1980 that Vandy has posted 90-plus points in four straight games.

The Dores have had at least five individuals score in double digits in each of those contests.

Vanderbilt finished with 18 assists against only seven turnovers on the day, adding nine steals and seven blocked shots to go along with a 49-28 rebounding advantage. The Commodores shot 47.9 percent from the field overall after connecting on 54.5 percent in the second half, making 11 3-point field goals, while they limited the Golden Lions (0-5) to a 40.4 field-goal percentage.

Trevon Payton led all scorers with 22 points for Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and Quion Williams added 20 points as well.

It was a two-point contest midway through the first half until Miles scored five points in a 12-2 run that extended the Dore advantage to double figures. Vandy pushed its lead to 20 points on a Miles 3-pointer that capped a 13-3 spurt just over four minutes into the second half and weren’t threatened the rest of the way.

The Commodores conclude a three-game homestand with a 6 p.m. matchup against Texas Southern on Thursday.
