COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Vanderbilt cross country program competed in the Arturo Barrios Invitational hosted by Texas A&M on Saturday morning, highlighted by a top-10 finish from the women’s squad.
The Commodore women totaled 253 points to place 10th among 38 teams in the six-kilometer race and notched a third top-10 finish on the season. Sophomore Cameron Fawcett paced Vanderbilt with 21:04.5 to place 19th, while fellow sophomore Ella Lambert (21:24.4) also earned a top-30 finish.
Senior Caroline Eck was the third Commodore to cross the finish line in 21:38.6, while juniors Joslin Blair (22:16.3) and Lainey Phelps (22:22.4) rounded out Vanderbilt’s top-five performers. Junior Julia Rosenberg (22:27.6) and senior Haley Walker (22:42.7) were additional finishers for Vandy.
The Commodore men totaled 835 points in the eight-kilometer race to place 33rd. Vanderbilt was led by sophomore Phillip Metcalf, who finished in 25:26.2, while freshman Michael Schumacher (25:44.5) finished second among competing Dores.
Also finishing for Vanderbilt was the foursome of freshman Brody Haar (26:23.3), sophomore Zach Hodges (26:39.9), senior Max Beck (28:11.6) and freshman Dylan Ballard (29:55.1).
The Commodores return to action on Oct. 28 at the SEC Championships, which will be held in Oxford, Mississippi.
