Commodores climb to No. 26 in USTFCCCA rankings

The Vanderbilt women’s cross country is on the move again.

The Commodores jumped up two spots — to No. 26 — on Tuesday when the USTFCCCA released its first regular-season rankings. Vanderbilt was No. 28 in the USTFCCCA’s preseason poll.

The Vanderbilt women and men — who had an open date this past Saturday — will be in action this weekend, hosting their lone home meet of the season, the Commodore Classic, at Percy Warner Park. The meet, which will feature 20 schools, will begin with the men’s 8k race at 9 a.m., followed by the women’s 5k at 10 a.m. (Full preview to come later this week at vucommodores.com).

The Vanderbilt women opened the season on Sept. 3 with an impressive showing at the Belmont Opener. Led by Sara Tsai’s dominating first-place time of 17:29.9, the Commodores placed five runners among the Top-8 and won the team title with 24 points. Vanderbilt’s top five finishers had a gap of just 19.5 seconds.

Maddie Criscione was the second Commodore across the line, finishing third overall at 17:43.5. Devon Grisbaum was fifth at 17:46.1. Reagan Anderson was seventh at 17:47.7 and Megan Huebner was eighth at 17:49.4. (Full recap and results: HERE)

On the men’s side, Jake Van Geffen took 19th with a time of 15:48.3 to pace the Commodores, who finished fourth among the D-I teams. Vanderbilt’s Nikolaos Gkotsis was 21st at 15:53.1.
