Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings will be honored on Tuesday evening at a Coaching for Literacy event in Memphis and will be honored in the organization’s first Wall of Honor class.
The event, which will also feature a conversation with legendary basketball coach Larry Brown, will be hosted by Gary Parrish, CBSSports.com’s national basketball columnist and resident of Memphis.
Stallings, entering his 16th season with the Commodores, will have his jersey retired as a member of the organization’s Wall of Honor, and will be joined in the class by University of Memphis head basketball coach Josh Pastner, Bill Rhodes, the CEO of Autozone, and Eilliot Perry, a former University of Memphis and NBA standout who currently serves as the Community Advisor with the Poplar Foundation.
The mission of Coaching for Literacy is to increase awareness about the number of people in America who are functionally or totally illiterate and the social problems associated with illiteracy. By leveraging the unique power of collegiate and professional sports, Coaching for Literacy raises money to support effective local literacy programs and schools focused on educating elementary and middle school students.
