Tyler Clarke fills key new position

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt Athletics announced Friday that Tyler Clarke will serve as director of Olympic sports strength and conditioning.

Clarke, also Vanderbilt’s director of applied sports science, fills the new position as the Commodores continue to provide support in performance-based initiatives such as nutrition, athletic training, strength and conditioning, and mental performance services.

“Vanderbilt is a special place, and it is a true privilege to be in a position to positively impact the experience of our student-athletes,” Clarke said. “We look forward to providing our student-athletes with an elite training experience and atmosphere.”

Clarke served for six seasons as Vanderbilt’s assistant director of football strength and conditioning. He came to Vanderbilt in 2014 after serving seven seasons as an assistant strength coach for Nebraska’s football program.

Before joining Nebraska, Clarke spent three seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Iowa. Clarke also served as a student assistant with the Hawkeye strength and conditioning staff while working toward his degree.

He earned his bachelor’s in health and sports studies from Iowa in 2005 and his master’s in administration from Central Michigan in 2008. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. Clarke is also certified in CPR through the American Red Cross.
