PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Vanderbilt women’s golf began its season on Friday with an opening round 4-over par 364 team total at the Carmel Cup. The Commodores sit in the middle of the pack in tied for third place after 18 holes at the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Club.
“I thought everybody held their own today and we were able to put together a solid round,” said head coach Greg Allen.
Tillie Claggett started off her sophomore season with a 2-under-par 70 performance, carding a team-best six birdies including three in a row on holes No. 4-6. Graduate student Celina Sattelkau also notched five birdies on her way to an even-par 72 score.
Charlene Chung led a trio of freshman making their Commodore debuts after posting five birdies on the way to a 73, while reigning SEC Freshman of the Year Lynn Lim carded a 74. Ava Merrill, finished with a 75 and Im recorded a 76 as well for the Dores.
“We looked really good at times, and looked like it was the first round of the year at other times. But I’m really encouraged by the toughness that I saw,” said Allen. “This is a group with the potential of being a great group!”
