Carper 10th at U.S. Jr. Amateur

INDIANAPOLIS – Incoming Vanderbilt freshman Kim Carper is in 10th place after the first day of the week-long United States Junior Amateur Bowling Championships.

Carper, from Fort Ripley, Minn., had a 1,200 total after six games, trailing Melanie DeCarlo of Peru, Ill., by 71 pins in this marathon event.

Seven other current or incoming Commodore freshmen are competing. Freshman Courtney Morgan is in 32nd position, NCAA Player of the Year Josie Earnest (34th) and All-American Brittni Hamilton (67th) struggled to find the groove with totals of 1,164 and 1,134, respectively.

Kayla Rhoades, an incoming transfer student from Lafayette, Ind., was in 49th place. Freshmen Sarah O’Brien (43rd) and Lauren Rhein (139th) and junior Brittany Garcia (195th) round out the Vanderbilt connections.
