Freshman Abbey Carlson carded a second-round 73 to lead Vanderbilt Women’s Golf on the second day of play at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, on Monday. As a team, the Commodores are in 14th place with a team total of 610 (308-302).
Carlson’s second-round 73 paced Vanderbilt at the par-72, 6,164-yard Rio Mar Country Club River Course, with the Commodores also counting a pair of 76’s from Alison Armstrong and Alexandra Farnsworth and a 77 from Courtney Zeng.
“Today was a little better scoring day for us overall,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “It was a really nice comeback from Abbey today and that’s what you expect from a great player after a rough day yesterday. We’re just not real sharp right now. But Farney was starting to find it the last few holes, so I’ll be excited to see what she does tomorrow. The girls have a great attitude and are working on the right things. We just need to stay patient.”
Furman remains the team leader with a two-round score of 583 (290-293), three shots better than second-place Kent State. The Purple Paladins’ Haylee Harford leads all individuals with a five-under par, 139.
The third and final round continues Tuesday from Puerto Rico.
