BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday that Vanderbilt women’s basketball graduate student Jordyn Cambridge has been selected to the Preseason All-SEC second team, as voted on by a select panel of both SEC and national media members.
It is the first All-SEC preseason accolade for Cambridge, who is returning for her sixth season with the Commodores after missing the 2022-23 campaign with an injury. The Nashville, Tennessee, native is a two-time All-SEC defensive team selection, earning the honor back in 2019-20 and 2020-21. The guard’s selection to the Preseason All-SEC second team comes after Cambridge averaged 10.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 33 games during her last season on the court.
“I’m proud of Jordyn, and excited that her work ethic has earned her this recognition,” said Vanderbilt women’s basketball head coach Shea Ralph. “Her recovery went very well, and she has looked great in practice so far. It’s no secret that we are a better team when Jordyn is on the floor for us, and we can’t wait to have her back out there this season.”
Cambridge enters the 2023-24 season with 234 career steals, which puts her eighth all-time in program history in steals. During the 2021-22 season, Cambridge set Vanderbilt’s single-season record with 129 steals, a total that also led the NCAA that season.
She is the second player in SEC history to record a triple-double at the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament, as she posted 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists in the first round against Texas A&M.
Cambridge will be one of two Commodore players to represent Vanderbilt at this Thursday’s SEC Tipoff’24, as she will be joined by junior Sacha Washington and Coach Ralph. The SEC Network will air an interview with Coach Ralph, Cambridge, and Washington at SEC Tipoff’24 at 11 a.m. SEC Network+ will stream Coach Ralph’s press conference at 1 p.m.
