NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt will recognize one its own at 5 p.m. Saturday when the Commodores host rival Tennessee in Memorial Gymnasium.

Vandy associate head coach David Grace joined head coach Jerry Stackhouse’s staff prior to this season and brought a wealth of coaching knowledge and military experience to West End.

Part of Vanderbilt’s in-game features during Saturday’s Salute to Service contest will be a tribute to Grace for his two decades of service in the United States Air Force.

“I’m looking forward to building an incredible program here at Vanderbilt,” Grace told The Vanderbilt Hustler in January. “I know we have what it takes under coach Stack and (Vanderbilt athletics director) Malcolm Turner’s leadership. This is my first time serving as associate head coach and I’m so thankful that Stack gave me this title.

“It’s been a joy to be around our players, learning the new NBA-like system and coaching them in practice. I’m so happy to be at Vanderbilt and in the SEC.”

Grace has also coached at California, UCLA, Oregon State, San Francisco and Sacramento State.

Vanderbilt will honor local service members during the game against Tennessee and there will be several  in-game recognitions as well as a halftime scrimmage between the Vanderbilt Police Department and the Nashville Fire Department.
