NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt’s Maria Bulanova has been named the Southland Bowler of the Month for January, the Southland Bowling League announced Thursday.
Bulanova helped the Commodores to a pair of first-place finishes in the month of January by averaging 21.04 in traditional frames and 21.4 in Baker frames. The senior claimed her seventh individual tournament championship and a Most Valuable Player title at the Northeast Invitational (Jan. 17-19).
Bulanova opened the month at the Vegas Classic (Jan. 10-12) by pushing Vanderbilt to a team title with a 20th-place individual finish after averaging 21.16 per frame for the tournament. Two weeks later, she won her school-record seventh career individual title as the MVP at the Northeast Invitational (Jan. 17-19) with a 20.64 average per frame in a field of 26 teams.
To close out the month, Bulanova placed sixth overall with a 21.86 frame average in a competitive 12-team field at the Prairie View Invitational (Jan. 31-Feb. 2). In January, the senior paced the Commodores with 192 strikes.
Southland bowlers of the month are voted upon by the league’s sports information directors. Voting for one’s own bowler is not permitted.
Vanderbilt returns to the lanes Feb. 14 at the Arkansas State Tournament.
