CZECH REPUBLIC—Vanderbilt’s Maria Bulanova, bowling for her homeland of Russia, has the lead in the European Champions Cup heading into Sunday’s final day of competition.

Bulanova averaged 228.4 Saturday and leads Sweden’s Casja Wegner by 35 pins. Nicole Sanders of The Netherlands is third, Solene Goren of France controlled fourth place. The other four bowlers advancing into the final eight are Nadine Gerbler of Germany, Heidi Thorstensen of Norway, Petra Stankova of Slovakia and Danni Hopcroft of England.

The eight will bowl four games, then cut to the final four for match play to determine the champion. Bulanova won the event in 2015 and is hoping to win back-to-back titles.
