Brockman to Rejoin Vanderbilt Women’s Basketball Team

5/17/2005 NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Rachel Brockman, a 6-3 Forward from Noblesville, Ind., will rejoin the Vanderbilt Women’s Basketball team for the 2005-06 season after spending one season playing at Daytona Beach Community College, Vanderbilt head coach Melanie Balcomb announced on Tuesday. Brockman originally signed with the Commodores out of high school and was in the 2003-04 recruiting class which was ranked No. 1 in the nation.
 
Brockman played in 25 games last season for DBCC and averaged 8.6 points and 5.0 rebounds. She shot 35 percent from the field (70-of-198). She grabbed 120 total rebounds including 35 offensive boards and 85 defensive boards while scoring 197 total points.
 
While at Noblesville High School, she was named to the 2003 McDonald’s All-American Dream 100 and was a 2003 Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American out of Noblesville High School. She earned All-Metro, All-Hoosier Crossroads Conference (4A), Noblesville Times All-Area as a senior and was honorable mention All-America by Street & Smith as a sophomore and junior. Brockman averaged 13.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.4 blocks and 1.4 assists per game as a senior at Noblesville. She attended Cathedral High School in Indianapolis her first three years of high school, winning the 3A state title her freshman and sophomore seasons. Her three teams at Cathedral combine for a 77-5 record including a 56-2 mark her first two seasons. She averaged 14.7 points and 8.6 rebounds as junior at Cathedral.
 
Brockman becomes the fifth newcomer for the Commodores 2005-06 season. She joins Jennifer Risper, Amy Malo, Chrisitina Wirth and Holly Rodgers in the class of 2005-06. Brockman will be eligible for the 2005-06 season and has three years of eligibility remaining at Vanderbilt. She turned down Auburn, Mississippi State, Michigan State, Louisville, Texas Tech and Indiana to rejoin the Commodores.
