Brent Richard Selected to Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete Team
Saint Louis, Mo. — Sophomore captain Brent Richard is one of 23 players named to the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete Team as announced by the league office. Richard, a forward from Sugarland, Texas, was selected to the Honorable Mention team. He owns a 3.85 GPA with a major in Engineering Science. He played in every game this season after suffering through an injury-ridden season last year. He owned an assist on a goal that gave VU a 2-0 lead over #12 Tulsa. The Commodores played a school-record seven overtime games with five of those games ending in a tie A total of 42 student-athletes were nominated for the Valley’s scholar-athlete team. The criteria for the honor parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular-season matches.
