Brady Wins Landfall Tradition 10-31-04 10/31/2004 WILMINGTON, N.C. – Vanderbilt sophomore Chris Brady fired a four-under par 68 to win the Landfall Tradition Sunday, her third collegiate medalist finish. Brady finished the 54 holes at seven-under par 209 to edge New Mexico’s Kailin Downs by two shots. The Commodore team didn’t fare as well, finishing 11th at 909, well behind New Mexico’s winning 878 pace. Vanderbilt’s Kristen Svicarovich had another steady day, coming in with a 74, but the Black and Gold freshmen didn’t get untracked. “I have been very pleased with the play of Chris and Kristen all fall,” Coach Martha Richards Freitag says. “It was great to see Chris finish her fall with such an outstanding performance.” Brady had won the Texas Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic and was co-medalist at the Kentucky Wildcat Invitational as a freshman. The tournament concludes Vanderbilt’s fall tournament schedule. Vanderbilt results: Day Two Wilmington, N.C. – Vanderbilt’s Chris Brady ground out an even par 72 to remain in second place at the Landfall Tradition after 36 holes of play. The Commodores, however, slipped to a team 307 and are in 11th place going into Sunday’s final round. While Brady and sophomore classmate Kristen Svicarovich were turning in even par cards, their freshmen teammates struggled in windy conditions. “I can’t say enough about the play of Chris and Kristen, not just today but throughout the entire fall,” Coach Martha Richards Freitag said. “Chris made the turn at one-under but she wasn’t striking the ball as well as she did yesterday (when she shot 69). But she stayed focused and nearly holed out for an eagle on 17.” Brady’s 141 total is one shot off the pace set by New Mexico’s Kailin Downs, who shot 67 today after an opening 73. Tennessee’s Marci Turner, the first round leader, is at 142. As a freshman last year, Brady was co-medalist at the Kentucky Wildcat Invitational and won the Texas Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic. Day One WILMINGTON, NC—Chris Brady was three-under par and freshman Julie Bartholomew had a collegiate best 73 as Vanderbilt got off to a solid start at the Landfall Tradition Friday. The Commodores are in fifth place in the 12-team field, seven shots behind first place Tennessee. Brady, a second-team all-SEC pick last year as a freshman, had a strong day en route to her 69. She is second individually, two shots off the pace set by Marci Turner of Tennessee. Brady jumped out at four-under after seven holes and narrowly missed birdie putts on each of the last three holes. “Chris managed her round very well today,” Coach Martha Richards Freitag said. “This round was very similar to her recent round at Stanford (also three-under). Freitag said Brady could have been influential in Bartholomew’s break-out round, too. “Last night Chris spent quite a bit of time with Julie, going over the course and discussing her thoughts on how it should be played,” Freitag says. “It seems to have paid off. “Julie was very consistent all day,” Freitag continues. “It was the best I have seen her swing to the target all fall. She’s been close to having this kind of tournament round all fall. It is rewarding to see her hard work and patience pay off.” Liebelei Lawrence shot 76, Kristen Svicarovich had putting woes in shooting 80 and Helen-Rose Richards came in with an 82 on a warm, overcast day. |
