Jacqui Concolino

Vanderbilt junior Chris Brady and sophomore Jacqui Concolino each shot a 1-under-par 71 to tie for sixth place in first round action at the NCAA East Regional at Bryan Park Golf Course (par 72, 6,386 yards) in Browns Summit, N.C.

Brady and Concolino are two shots behind Alabama’s Jenny Sun who posted a 3-under-par 69 on Thursday.

As a team, the Commodores carded an 8-over-par 296 to tie for sixth place with South Carolina, North Carolina and host Wake Forest — eight shots behind tournament leaders LSU and California at 288.

Brady, who missed Wednesday’s practice round due to illness, rebounded Thursday to register six birdies on the day. Brady, who began her round on the 10th hole, posted four consecutive birdies from the 11th to 14th holes. Concolino notched consecutive birdies at the 15th and 16th holes and was 2-under par after her first nine holes before finishing 1-under par for the day.

Junior Kristen Svicarovich shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 15th place. She shot even-par on 16 holes, with a birdie on the 17th hole and a bogey on the second hole.

“Chris, Jacqui and Kristen were outstanding today and all three have better rounds in their bags,” Vanderbilt head coach Martha Richards Freitag said. “We want to put together a complete tournament and are looking forward to the next two days.”

Other competing Commodores include sophomore Liebelei Lawrence, who carded an 82, and sophomore Julie Bartholomew, who posted an 84.

Vanderbilt will start second-round play Friday by teeing off from the first hole at 12:20 p.m. CT. The three-day tournament concludes Saturday. The top eight teams advance to the NCAA Championship, May 23-26, in Columbus, Ohio.
