Bowling Ranked Fourth After Day 2

Freshman Katelyn Abigania is ranked top 10 individually after five games

ORLANDO, Fla. — The No. 3 Vanderbilt bowling team is fourth in the team standings at Destination Orlando after winning three, dropping two traditional matches on Saturday.

“It was a tough day,” head coach John Williamson said. “Scoring continued to be a grind. We are still in position to make the top four bracket, but we need to come out a little bit more competitive tomorrow morning.”

Victoria Varano, Dannielle Henderson, Alyssa Ballard, Sydney Bohn and Katelyn Abigania started the day for the Dores, but Vanderbilt made several lineup switches as nine student-athletes saw game action.

The Commodores notched a 979-820 win over Prairie View A&M to start the day. Ballard and Abigania recorded respective scores of 233 and 200 pins to lead the way for Vandy.

Vanderbilt defeated No. 14 Mount St. Mary’s by a score of 966-895 in round 2. Abigania had the Dores’ highest score of the round, 218 pins. Varano followed with a 206 game score.

The Dores dropped their first match of the tournament in round 3, falling 907-900 to RV Emmanuel.

In a 980-817 win over Texas Southern, Abigania shot 258, which was the highest score by a Dore on Day 2.

The Commodores narrowly fell, 985-982, to No. 4 Youngstown State in the final match of the day. Freshman Avery Domaguin, who entered the lineup in game 4, posted a team-high score of 255 pins in the final round.

After five traditional games, Abigania is ranked 10th in the individual standings with scores of 200, 218, 150 and 258.

The Commodores will face sixth-ranked Arkansas State in a final baker match to determine bracket seeding. Action gets underway at 7:25 a.m. CT.
