JONESBORO, Ark. — Vanderbilt’s bowling team will compete in Arkansas State’s second annual Lady Indian Invitational at the Jonesboro Bowling Center Friday through Sunday. National tournament finalists Central Missouri State and Bethune-Cookeman highlight the tournament field, which also includes Louisiana Tech, Minnesota State, Southern, North Carolina A&T and host Arkansas State.

The tournament will be the second action of the fall season for the Commodores, who lost at Alabama A & M October 19 despite setting school records as a team and individually.

“This should be a good early test for us,” says Vanderbilt Coach John Williamson.  “There are two of last year’s NCAA tournament teams in Central Missouri and Bethune-Cookeman and three other teams that were knocking on the tournament door.”

The Commodores are taking eight bowlers on the trip, including freshman Michelle Peloquin, who rolled a 750 series in the season opener.

Others going to Jonesboro include junior Christine Luce, who missed the Alabama A & M meet, freshmen Karen Grygiel, Tara Kane and Kaitlin Reynolds along with junior Jessica Tower and seniors Jennifer Redmond and Tywanquila Walker.

Vanderbilt had its annual fall break since its last meet and many of the team members returned home.  Those who stayed on campus emphasized spare conversions during practice sessions, an area that the coaching staff thought needed bolstering.

The Commodores will face Minnesota State later today before the full-scale tournament begins Saturday morning.
